[2008/05/27 04:15:19] <e^ipi> what precisely does --waitforcert do, anyway?
[2008/05/27 04:16:48] <e^ipi> eg, if i want to throw ' puppetd --waitforcert=60 ' in /etc/rc.local ... does that mean i can set up the node definition on the puppet master scriptacularly , then sign the key, and by the act of signing it trigger the puppet to load it's config?
[2008/05/27 04:20:15] @ Ol_ joined channel #puppet
[2008/05/27 04:20:59] <lak> e^ipi: it just tells the puppet client to sleep for a given amount of time and retry if the server doesn't have a signed cert for it
[2008/05/27 04:21:35] <e^ipi> so it would accomplish this goal then

[2008/05/27 18:01:22] <lstep> Hello, coul anyone tell me how should I do to install puppet on a Debian Etch using the latest version of Puppet, that means not using the "official" debian packages. I tried using gem, but it installs the binaries in /va/lib/gem/* which is not really cool. Any option to put them in /usr/bin or another clean way of installing puppet?

[2008/05/27 20:19:55] <fujin> jamesturnbull: how do we currently achieve 'fixture' style mocking with Puppet?

[2008/05/27 22:45:59] <pluesch0r> morning.
[2008/05/27 22:48:21] <pluesch0r> i'm sure this is one of the main questions asked in this channel, but anyways .. i've got a client, test.domain1.com that i'd like to connect to master.domain2.com - how do i get this to work on a current stable debian? i understood i'd need to set server master.domain2.com in /etc/puppet/puppetd.conf and certname=master.domain2.com on the master.
[2008/05/27 22:48:37] <pluesch0r> however, puppetmasterd refuses to start because it does not recognise the certname config directive.

[2008/05/27 22:53:38] <pluesch0r> i mean .. it starts, but i'm not able to connect from the client.
[2008/05/27 22:54:43] <martha> pluesch0r: what error are you getting?
[2008/05/27 22:54:51] <keithlard> howdy
[2008/05/27 22:55:28] <pluesch0r> martha: the first error i got was Certificates were not trusted: hostname was not match with the server certificate
[2008/05/27 22:55:33] <pluesch0r> that lead me to http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/RubySSL-2007-006
[2008/05/27 22:55:52] <martha> on the client or the master?
[2008/05/27 22:55:56] <pluesch0r> i'm not trying to get puppetmaster to behave with the certname=master.domain2.com setting
[2008/05/27 22:56:01] <pluesch0r> i got that error on the client.
[2008/05/27 22:56:14] <pluesch0r> the master simply accepted the net client. i was able to list and then sign the client.
[2008/05/27 22:58:12] <pluesch0r> s/i'm not/i'm now/
[2008/05/27 23:00:43] <pluesch0r> ah. stale pid file on the master-side.

[2008/05/27 23:03:24] <pluesch0r> martha: now .. even though i'm defining certname=master.domain2.com in my puppet.conf file, openssl s_client -connect master.domain2.com:8140 returns a cert that only has /CN=master set
